Standing Rigging
We provide a thorough range of rigging solutions from complete re-rigs to just renewing individual items and advice in these areas on site with our mobile rigging service throughout Ireland or in our workshop.
Aquashak supply a complete swaging service for customers requiring any rigging and have an extensive range of wire rope.
1 X 19
Aquashak Rigging Services use superior quality diamond drawn 1x19 wire with a brighter finish which gives it a longer lasting life. We keep a wide-ranging stock of all stainless wire with sizes from 2.0mm up to 16.0mm.
We also keep a comprehensive range of all types of swaged terminal fittings to suit your mast which can be swaged for you in our workshop providing you with the completed rig. This enables us to offer all our customers a thorough rigging service
Alternatively for the more hands-on customer we can sell you lengths of stainless wire rope by the coil for making your own rigging. We also sell the swageless mechanical end fittings so you can also fit the end terminals yourself without a swaging machine.
Stainless 1 x 19 wire rope is frequently used in a wide range of applications other than the marine industry from balustrades stairways walkways suspended canopies and even for anti-theft purposes.
7 X 19
7 x 19 wire is considerably more flexibility than 1x19 wire, it can be used for halyards, steering cables and various parts of standing rigging as it can turn around a tight radius a lot easier because of it’s more subtle nature and ultimately not cause itself any damage when doing so.
7 x 19 can be finished with the same swaged terminal ends which are used for
1 x19 wire, it can also be finished with the swageless mechanical fittings, a Talurit eye can also be pressed onto 7 x 19 wire to finish an end or in the case of halyards by splicing it to rope.
As with 1 x 19 wire we can also supply ready made lengths of this wire or alternatively supply you with all the relevant parts to complete your own cables.
Compact Strand (formally Dyform)
For those sailors who are more performance orientated Dyform or Compact wire offers a lower stretch more robust alternative to the standard 1x19 wire. Constructed from high quality stainless, Dyform wire has its strands drawn through a specially shaped die so that when bound together it has less stretch due to a tighter lay-up, and also has less dynamic stretch due to a greater cross sectional area of material for any given diameter. Since Compact Strand is also stronger than 1x19 it is usually possible to down size the diameter which also helps to reduce windage and weight aloft. Compact Strand can again be used with all swaged terminals as used for 1 x 19 wire and all swageless mechanical fittings.
Rod Rigging
We use Nitronic 50 for all our rod rigging work which is now regarded as the most popular amongst racing sailors and cruising sailors. Rod rigging has various advantages over 1 x 19 and Compact wire such as greater strength, reduced windage, is more resistant to stretch and a long life due to unrivaled corrosion resistance.
Aquashak have their own Cold Heading Press which enables us to build your rigging to order at our workshop or if needed we can carry out repairs and alterations on site.
We only use top quality Nitronic 50 rod. There is less expensive stainless steel rod available that will be weaker and not last as long which we prefer not to use.
Rod rigging terminals and fittings involve the use of a special Cold Heading system, using a pressure heading system. This can be untaken at our workshop or fitted on site by prior arrangement.
